The Book Cover Archive likes your haircut

Book Cover Archive Amazon

Nothing wins me over as a good sense of humor. I was browsing  Book Cover Archive, saw the section on books about book covers, so, me, not liking design and art books at all, I clicked, to find this on Amazon. What I like most? That “Moneys!” in red. Hilarious.

Oh, yes, by the way, I’m obsessed with Penguin. I want that book please, plus a mug. I don’t want a Pantone mug anymore. I definitely want a Penguin mug.

Crafts fair at Madrid

For someone who spends the afternoons learning how to apply graphics on any kind of surfaces, visiting Nómada Market, the fair of independent designers and arts-crafts, is kind of crazy. Graphics on cloths, brooches, pendants, dolls… I thought as it was a rainy sunday the place would be rather empty and all the nice things would already be sold, but…

So there you are, I embraced kitsch… The cat is by Barcelona-based Secretos de Alcoba; the rest of their stuff is not the same style though; they have amazing headdresses, and I usually don’t like them, but those had beautiful beautiful feathers. The pendant is a vintage porcelain toy plate, by… by ? I don’t have their card, there’s nothing on the envelope. Well here’s something to learn ! Never let people go without your data !

I promise a second post with some other interesting spanish crafties from which I did pick a card…

El Beso closed

El Beso, my dear english friends, was a lovely and loved shop in the center of Madrid, where I learnt my first little steps in the world of pattern, I went to parties, did my first solo show in Madrid and accidentally forgot a little framed drawing that I let there stay, happy and surrounded by jewellery and brooches.

They just closed though, with a nice little party where I was invited to draw on the windows. I had fun!

We were promised there will be a third edition of El Beso (well yes, I only knew the second), and I really believe there will be, because this girls can’t stop making new projects. I’ve been told the lovely vintage drawers have a new job now in the brand-new shop La Intrusa, which is just around the corner. Guess they didn’t feel like walking much, as they’re old.

I made these pictures of the results of the window decoration party, do I have to tell you which one is mine?

The megabytes of spring

Now this is a good way to use the digital era. Sorry, M.I.A., but I’m not too keen on your 3D experiments.

The Megabytes Of Spring

The editorial is called The Megabytes Of Spring, it’s by V Magazine and you can see all the gifs (17) here.

I found it on a site called Prendas Públicas, a good name (Public Apparel), very good design and plus they won me over with their Senior style section, which I think is something fresh and necessary. Please set us free from all this fashion for eternal twenty-something skinny women. I already knew a blog on the issue,  Advanced Style, so I hope the trend doesn’t fade and there’ll be some cool streetstyles I can copy when I’ll be 60.

Two more gifs, and that’s all!

+++edit: animated pics by Reed + Rader: check out their portfolio, see why they’re specialists on the subject!

Mum, I want to be Confetti System

confetti system

What is this mighty brilliant thing and why haven’t I made it?

confetti systemconfetti system

You can click on the photos of these beautiful beautiful beautiful installations by Confetti System to see them not big, bit giant size. Or else, you can visit their their website, which is wonderful and simple: basically, it’s all photos full-screen, and a tiny simple menu. Why can’t more sites be like that. No blah blah, no waiting. Clas.

No wonder they’ve worked for Beach House. There’s a conversation-interview between them where they say how they love each other’s work and what a pleasure it’s been working together. But of course. They match perfectly, don’t you think? confetti system beach houseconfetti system beach house

If you want to know more about Confetti System, I found a visit to their studio, which I challenge you to watch without wanting to move in there forever.

If you want to know more about Beach House, you can start by my favourite song, which I’m really obsessed with, Silver Soul. It’s both on Youtube and on Spotify, and I recommend that you listen to it anytime of the day: 9am or 10 pm.

24 hours working people

-How will you manage, with your master, and work?

-Oh, I’ll deal with it!

Classic. You say: if I have to, I won’t sleep! But you can’t do that… If I don’t sleep, I make ugly illustrations and bland patterns, I need my brain fresh and awake! So, if I have to, what I won’t do is: cooking, watching tv, painting my nails or just anything that involves stepping out the doormat. I have a full-time ticket for my little working seat in the coming months. I have a massive list of to-do-now-or-yesterday.

I’d like to add to my to-do-if-I-ever-have-free-time-again-list this:

At Burda you can find instructions to do this yourselves, even downloadable in PDF (the instructions, not the fabric). I can’t believe I’m meeting up again with Burda like this. When I was a kid, I was fascinated by those weird magazines, with the funny sheets in the middle, all white with pleeeenty of black lines and numbers. That was something! I have the picture in my mind, they were so eighties and wrinkled… Nothing like that now! Their web looks neat, with good beautiful design, that makes me want to click everywhere… waitwaitwait… I must go back to work. Sigh.

A fruit sticker with the face of a St Bernard dog

fruit sticker pegatina fruta

Alegre is what I am, with this wonderful post about me in La Condesa’s blog.

fruit sticker pegatina fruta

To finish up with the stories of my short trip to Paris, and to take up again on fruit stickers which I love so much, there you are this post with stickers collected only and exclusively in french fruit stores.

I fancy this one, I don’t think I had seen it before. The green border reminds me of Pictolín sweets and I love it.

Royal gala, I’d seen them before, but look at this: Taste of the year 2011! Meaning the future, because I picked it up in mid-december (2010). How advanced, these frenchies.

But! What a pleasant surprise when I met up again with this old doggy friend. I picked it up in Brussels, in 2008, I can even tell you the name of the street where the fruit shop was: Rue Blaes. I would see it there, stuck in my album, and I thought it was a product of my imagination or either some kind of street-art. Rather fruit-art. But not. It’s a real brand of oranges, and this time I took two with me. Aren’t they just amazing.

So the news of the week are, besides the wonderful post where La Condesa c shows my paintings and messy hair, and talks wonders about me, and even proposes me an exhibition, that this friday and saturday I’ll be at textile fair Heimtextil, in Francfort, so I’ll be able to compare it with Première Vision… and of course I’ll be loaded with homework about it for my master. I’ll tell you all about it next week.
