Hello alpaca

Jamie Mills decided, as 2010′s new year resolutions, to make a drawing a day and post it in his blog, which is something we all doing graphics think of sooner or later. As an example, Christopher David Ryan (who is genius, but I already told you that) did that on 2008.Thing is Jamie draws a lots of alpacas, so I was smitten. Besides, I learnt the word in english for this very funny animal is also a very funny word to say once and again: Alpaca. Again: alpaca. I love it.

Thing is Jamie accepts commissions, so I wrote to him to ask for an alpaca for my birthday (december first). So I got it. Thanks!

This is my alpaca contemplating a poorly constructed icosidodecahedron, and I love the explanation: I know you only requested an alpaca but he looked like he was thinking about something pretty important. Well yeah, he definitely does. I love it.

Here’s some other stuff Jamie does, quite brilliant by the way: (see more in his flickr)

Hurry up! There’s some 2010 days left, so you can still ask him to draw a spaceship, a giant omelette or whatever comes to your mind!

Keep cupcake and carry on

Disaster. I know, it’s a classic, but last friday I forgot to carry the camera to my very nice opening with some very nice people. So to do that post that I promised telling you all about it, I have to go around begging for some pics.

While I manage to get a bunch of them, I’ll show you three things.

One. They call them cupcake wrappers – I’m fascinated that there’s a name for such a specific thing. These ones are special for their laser carvings: cute. Paper Orchids, in Wisconsin.

Two. I know, everyone’s got totally over this poster but, hey, still, I love it. Which colour do you prefer? I have it quite clear: the last one, the aqua-pastel-pale-mint coloured.

At keepcalmgallery.com you can find a lot of posters like these, category: chin up. I think they’re perfect for a workplace, but I’m sure they might as well fit nicely anywhere in a house.

Three. Mountain-shaped cushions. Knitted mountain-shaped nicely patterned cushions. Do I need to add anything else? Made by Hillary Grant; muy bien, Hillary.

Metronomy, Jagërmeister, Neil Hannon and Alice Glass

You won’t believe this, but if I took part in the “Design the Jägermeister family” contest, it wasn’t because it was the only way to be at the second edition of Casa Jager. I don’t know much about that, really, only that it’s an exclusive party in a secret location, organized by Jägermeister, and I guess the the german liquor will be flowing in rivers.

Not either because the people attending will be, as I have read somewhere, “artists, promoters, journalists, bloggers, club owners, friends”. So cool.

Not out of ego either, because in the website they’re not showing the 20 selected proposals – and it doesn’t look like they’re going to. You’ll just have to believe me when I say I got selected.

Nope! None all the above! What I really want is to see Metronomy in concert, I love them! Here’s the great, very fun video of A thing for me:

Don’t you like them already?

Well, here’s the illustration I submitted. Oh wait! I have to translate it for you my non-spanish speaking fellow readers.

Jägus: scientific. Researching the formula for the perfect shot, which will cure hangover and flu.

Jägens: music teacher. Shows incredible chords to the best bands in the planet.

Jägonson: professional Scrabble player and exquisite Don Juan. Lives between our time and 1978, thanks to a Time Gate that’s open in his bedroom.

Jägka: world champion of javelin, she uses it as an eco transportation between every club and soirée in town.

Plus, I’ll tell you a secret: third character is Neil Hannon, from The Divine Comedy, and fourth one is Alice Glass, from Crystal Castles.
